I know the fear and helplessness you're feeling—but I'm here to show you there's so much more you can do to help your child thrive. From one cancer parent to another: I'm here to show you your child can do more than just survive treatment.
I'm Season Johnson

Let me tell you what happened when our oncologist found out I was giving Kicker raw milk during his cancer treatment.
He looked me directly in the eyes and said with complete conviction, “No raw dairy. Whatsoever.”
And I smiled, nodded respectfully, went home, and kept giving Kicker his raw kefir, raw milk, raw butter, and raw cheese every single day.
Now before you gasp, let me explain exactly why I made that decision. Because this is not about being reckless or dismissive of medical expertise. It is about understanding the actual science behind raw milk for kids with cancer and making an informed decision for your child based on that evidence.
I have enormous respect for oncologists. They are highly trained and deeply committed to saving lives. However, most physicians receive less than one week of nutrition education across their entire medical school and residency training. In many programs today, nutrition is not even a required course. It is an elective. Medicine is their expertise and I honor that completely. Nutrition is mine. And on this particular topic, the evidence tells a very different story than conventional medical advice.

To understand why raw milk is dismissed and feared today, you have to understand what happened to it in the late 1800s.
As industrialization exploded and urban populations grew rapidly, the demand for milk production increased faster than ethical farming practices could keep pace. Farmers began cutting corners. They confined cattle in overcrowded quarters, fed them grain, corn, and soy instead of grass, and prioritized quantity over quality. The result was sick animals producing compromised milk. Tuberculosis, brucellosis, diphtheria, salmonella, and listeria began appearing in the milk supply. People got sick. Some died.
However, this was not a problem with raw milk itself. It was a problem with the industrialization and corruption of how raw milk was produced. Traditional cultures around the world had consumed raw milk for centuries and thrived on it, viewing it as medicine. What changed was not the milk. It was the farming.
Enter Louis Pasteur, who developed a process of heating milk to kill bacteria. Pasteurization solved the contamination problem created by industrial farming and it also made milk shelf-stable for weeks rather than days, which was enormously profitable for the dairy industry. And so pasteurization became standard practice, conventional raw milk farming largely disappeared, and the original, properly produced raw milk was lumped together with the industrially corrupted version in the public narrative.
The real raw milk, from healthy, grass-fed, pasture-raised cows following clean farming practices, was never the problem.
This is the part most people have never been told. And for a cancer family, it matters enormously.
When milk is heated to 160 degrees Fahrenheit for pasteurization or up to 280 degrees for ultra-pasteurization, the heat does not selectively destroy only harmful bacteria. It destroys everything. The beneficial bacteria necessary to digest the milk are killed. The enzymes that make the milk’s nutrients bioavailable are denatured. The vitamins and fragile proteins are damaged or destroyed entirely.
Research on pasteurization documents the following consequences: destruction of digestive enzymes, significant loss of vitamins C, B12, and B6, denaturation of milk proteins, elimination of beneficial bacteria, and association with increased rates of allergies, tooth decay, colic in infants, growth problems in children, osteoporosis, and inflammatory conditions.
One of the most critical enzymes destroyed by pasteurization is phosphatase, whose specific job is to facilitate calcium absorption. This means that the calcium so prominently advertised on every carton of pasteurized milk cannot actually be absorbed by the body without phosphatase present. Pasteurized milk not only fails to deliver its promised calcium. Research indicates it actually leaches calcium from the bones and teeth as the body attempts to metabolize an enzyme-depleted food it was not designed to process.
For a child in cancer treatment whose bones, teeth, and mineral reserves are already under stress, this is not a neutral food. It is an actively problematic one.
Additionally, what most people do not know about conventional pasteurized dairy is that inspections of dairy herds for disease are not required before the milk is processed. Milk from dozens or hundreds of different farms is pooled into a single large container and pasteurized together. Because the heat kills everything anyway, there is no incentive for conventional dairy farmers to maintain exceptional standards. In fact, pasteurized milk is permitted to contain up to 100,000 bacteria per milliliter before processing, which can include pathogens. This is arguably the reason pasteurization exists in the first place.
By contrast, Raw Farm USA, the largest raw milk dairy in the country, averages approximately 1,500 beneficial living bacteria per milliliter and has never had a human pathogen detected in any of their tested samples. Every single batch is tested and those results are available to consumers upon request. California standards for raw milk intended for human consumption require fewer than 10 coliforms and fewer than 15,000 live bacteria per milliliter with absolutely no pathogens permitted. The accountability standards for raw milk farmers are dramatically higher than those for conventional dairy.
According to CDC data, since 1972 there have been 422 illnesses and 70 deaths attributed to pasteurized milk, compared to 110 illnesses and zero deaths from raw milk. The narrative around raw milk safety does not hold up when examined against the actual data.

For a child with cancer, raw milk is not just a safer dairy option. It is a therapeutically meaningful one.
The Raw Milk Institute documents that real raw milk contains lacto-peroxidase, lacto-ferrin, leukocytes, immunoglobulins and antibodies, medium chain fatty acids, beneficial bacteria, lysozyme, growth factors, and a comprehensive suite of immune-supportive compounds. Together these components destroy pathogens in the milk, stimulate the immune system, build and repair the gut wall, and prevent absorption of additional pathogens and toxins. These components are largely destroyed by the heat of pasteurization.
Perhaps most significantly for cancer families, the biodiversity of bacteria in raw milk has been shown to trigger Killer T-Cell differentiation, the immune cells specifically responsible for identifying and destroying cancer cells. This was one of the primary reasons I was so committed to giving Kicker his daily raw dairy throughout his entire treatment. I wanted every possible tool working in favor of his immune system.
Raw milk also delivers fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K2 in their natural, bioavailable form alongside the fat needed to absorb them. It provides calcium with phosphatase intact so the body can actually use it. It supports gut health with beneficial bacteria that help rebuild the microbiome devastated by chemotherapy. And it delivers complete protein with all essential amino acids in a form the body recognizes and can utilize.
I completely understand that for some families, the idea of raw milk feels like too big a step. Your oncologist may have been very firm about it. Your child may be at a particularly vulnerable point in treatment. You may simply not have access to a quality raw dairy source in your area.
If that is where you are, I want you to know that I respect that completely. And I want to offer you a genuinely nourishing alternative.
Our homemade coconut milk is one of the most popular recipes in our community and for good reason. It is rich, creamy, deeply nourishing, and free from every problematic ingredient found in commercial non-dairy milk. Unlike store-bought almond or oat milk, which are largely water, emulsifiers, and synthetic vitamins, homemade coconut milk delivers medium-chain triglycerides that support brain function and sustained energy, lauric acid with documented antimicrobial and antifungal properties, and genuine fat-soluble nutrition. Find our full coconut milk recipe here.
What I want to be clear about is this: if you are not using raw dairy, the alternative should not be conventional pasteurized milk. Pasteurized milk is not a safe middle ground for a cancer kid. It is an inflammatory, enzyme-depleted food that burdens the gut and delivers little usable nutrition. The choice is raw dairy from a quality source or a clean dairy-free alternative like homemade coconut milk. There is no good reason to choose pasteurized milk for a child healing through cancer.
Not all raw milk is created equal. The quality of the dairy depends entirely on the quality of the farming, and this is non-negotiable.
A good raw milk farmer follows rigorous clean practices, tests every batch, and makes those results available to consumers. Their cows are grass-fed, pasture-raised, and healthy. The milk is handled carefully and kept cold throughout the process.

In California, Raw Farm USA is our most trusted and widely available source. Their testing standards exceed state requirements and their commitment to clean farming is exceptional.
Every single day throughout Kicker’s 3.5 years of cancer treatment, he received raw kefir, raw butter, and raw cheese as part of his daily nutrition protocol. Raw kefir in particular is one of the most probiotic-rich foods available and was essential for rebuilding and maintaining his gut microbiome during chemotherapy.
His immune function stayed strong. His ANC remained in the normal range through 95% of his treatment. He was never hospitalized for an opportunistic infection. He had energy and an appetite when most children on his protocol did not.
I cannot point to any single food or supplement and say this one thing made the difference. However, I can tell you that raw dairy was a consistent, intentional part of a protocol that produced outcomes his oncology team called extraordinary.
Do your own research. Know your farmer. Make an informed decision for your child. And if raw dairy is not the right fit for your family right now, make your own coconut milk and give your child something genuinely nourishing in its place.

Either way, step away from the pasteurized milk.
This is not easy, and I know that. But you are here, you are learning, and you are choosing differently for your child every single day. That is everything.

,how do I find a Weston price chapter?
I grew up on raw milk from our own cows. Never had a test done and all seven of us survived! Next generation has kidneys stones, rotten teeth from birth almost, Lactose intolerance ( Even my mom and brothers now have lactose intolerance, and they had raw milk for years without a problem. We have seen depression and ADD rise also. Could this be part of it too? I always believed that milk was good for you and can not figure out why the teeth were so sick when they drank so much milk. Thanks
Love this! But I’m not sure where to buy and what brands are best for raw dairy products..
