I know the fear and helplessness you're feeling—but I'm here to show you there's so much more you can do to help your child thrive. From one cancer parent to another: I'm here to show you your child can do more than just survive treatment.
I'm Season Johnson
Let’s talk marshmallows. Specifically healthy, homemade and gut healing ones your kids will love!
Sure, they’re fluffy and nostalgic… but the ones lining store shelves? Not so great. Most commercial marshmallows are made with high fructose corn syrup, synthetic flavors, artificial dyes, and preservatives that have been linked to inflammation and gut damage. For kids going through cancer treatment, whose immune systems and digestive health are already under so much stress, those ingredients are the last thing we want to offer them.
But don’t worry. I’m not here to take away your s’mores nights. I’m here to help you upgrade them into something you can actually feel good about.

These marshmallows above are NOT ideal. But the homemade marshmallows I am sharing with you in this post are free from refined sugar, artificial flavors, and toxic junk, and they’re genuinely supportive of gut healing. The secret is a high-quality, grass-fed bovine gelatin that nourishes your child’s digestive lining, joints, skin, and so much more. For kids in treatment or recovery, that kind of nourishment matters deeply.
The star of this recipe is grass-fed bovine gelatin, and the only one I use and trust in our home is Perfect Supplements Grass-Fed Gelatin. Here’s why it earns a permanent spot in our pantry:
You can grab your gelatin here: Perfect Supplements Grass-Fed Gelatin and use code SEASON for 10% off.

These taste just like the ones you remember, but they’re actually nourishing your child’s body while they eat them. That’s a win worth celebrating.
Step 1:
In a mixing bowl, combine gelatin with 1/2 cup of filtered water. Let it sit and “bloom” while you move on to step 2.
Step 2:
In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together 1 cup maple syrup, 1/4 tsp salt, and the remaining 1/2 cup water. Bring to a boil and let it cook for 7–8 minutes, keeping the temp below 240°F.
Step 3:
Carefully pour the hot syrup into the gelatin mixture, then use a stand or hand mixer to whip on high speed for 8–10 minutes, or until it turns thick, fluffy, and glossy—like marshmallow fluff!
Step 4:
Pour into a parchment-lined pan and place in the fridge for 1–2 hours to set. Once firm, cut into bite-sized squares and enjoy!

Whether you’re camping under the stars, gathered around a backyard fire, or simply creating sweet memories in your own kitchen, these gut-healing marshmallows are a treat the whole family can enjoy together. For our cancer kids especially, food can be so much more than comfort. It can be medicine, and moments like these remind us that healing and joy can absolutely coexist.
