I know the fear and helplessness you're feeling—but I'm here to show you there's so much more you can do to help your child thrive. From one cancer parent to another: I'm here to show you your child can do more than just survive treatment.
I'm Season Johnson
Let me ask you something.
If your car was running low on fuel, you would go to the gas station and fill it up. If your child needed more Vitamin D, you would get them outside in the sun or add a supplement. If they were exhausted, you would put them to bed early.
So here is my question. If someone told you your child’s liver was struggling, or that their heart needed support, or that their kidneys were under stress, what would you do?
For most families, the answer is prescription medication. And I understand why. It is what we have been taught to reach for.
But I want to offer you something different. Something that has been used by traditional cultures for thousands of years and is backed by a growing body of modern research. Something I have seen change outcomes for real children going through cancer treatment.
I want to talk about organ meats for kids with cancer, and why this is one of the very first supplements I recommend to every family I work with.

Here is the foundational idea, and I promise it is simpler than it sounds.
Your liver needs liver. Your heart benefits from heart. Your kidneys respond to kidney.
Traditional cultures understood this intuitively. They prized organ meats above all other cuts of meat precisely because they recognized the concentrated nourishment these tissues provided. The Weston A. Price tradition documents this extensively. Indigenous populations with the highest levels of health and physical resilience consumed organ meats regularly and deliberately. They gave the organs of animals to children, to the sick, and to those who needed the most support.
For a child going through cancer treatment, whose organs are under enormous stress from chemotherapy, whose liver is working overtime to process toxic drug metabolites, and whose immune system is running on empty, this principle is not just interesting. It is deeply practical and potentially life-changing.
Chemotherapy is a cytotoxic agent. It kills rapidly dividing cells, which is why it targets cancer. However, it does not discriminate. It also damages healthy cells, depletes critical nutrients, burdens the liver, suppresses white blood cell production, and creates a state of profound oxidative stress throughout the body.
The liver takes one of the hardest hits. It is the body’s primary detoxification organ, and during chemotherapy it is processing a constant stream of toxic drug metabolites, dead tumor waste, and cellular debris. When the liver becomes overwhelmed, enzyme levels rise. Detoxification slows. The entire body suffers as a result.
The kidneys face similar pressure. So does the heart, which must maintain function while the body is flooded with agents that create inflammation and oxidative damage.
This is exactly why organ meats for kids with cancer are so important. When an organ is under stress, giving the body concentrated nutritional support from that same organ tissue provides the specific nutrients, cofactors, and building blocks that organ needs most to repair and function.
Organ meats are the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet. Nothing else comes close. Here is what each one delivers and why it matters specifically for a child in cancer treatment:
Liver
Liver is the king of all foods nutritionally. It delivers a remarkable concentration of Vitamin A, which is essential for immune function, cellular repair, vision, and reproductive health. It also provides B12, folate, iron, copper, and CoQ10 in amounts that no other food can match. For a child whose nutrient reserves are being depleted by chemotherapy, liver provides targeted replenishment at a level that diet alone rarely achieves.
Liver also directly supports the body’s own liver function. When the liver is burdened by chemotherapy, supplementing with grass-fed beef liver provides the specific nutrients the organ needs to keep detox pathways open and functioning.
Heart
Heart is the single richest dietary source of CoQ10 in existence. CoQ10 is essential for cellular energy production and plays a critical role in neutralizing free radicals, which are produced in enormous quantities during chemotherapy and radiation. Beyond CoQ10, heart provides zinc, iron, selenium, and a full spectrum of B vitamins, all of which are necessary for a healthy immune system and proper brain function. Many children in cancer treatment struggle with cognitive effects from chemotherapy. These nutrients directly support the brain.
Kidney
Kidney is one of the richest sources of selenium available in whole food form. Selenium is a powerful antioxidant that protects cells from oxidative damage, supports thyroid function, and plays a documented role in immune defense. During cancer treatment, selenium levels often drop significantly. Replenishing through whole food sources rather than isolated supplements gives the body selenium in its most bioavailable and body-compatible form.
I want to get personal with you for a moment because this is not just theory for me.
You may already know that my son Kicker was diagnosed with cancer just before his third birthday. That experience is what led me into this work. And because of that journey, I now spend my days walking alongside families who are in the middle of their own cancer battle, teaching them how to support their child’s body with real food, targeted supplementation, detox therapies, and natural tools that work alongside conventional treatment.
One of the children I worked with was a sweet little boy with Leukemia. His mama came to me deeply worried because his liver enzymes had become significantly elevated. The chemotherapy protocol he was on was extremely strong, and his small body was struggling to push the toxins through fast enough. His liver was overwhelmed.
I suggested she add Organ Complex, 2 capsules per day. Because he could not yet swallow capsules, I told her to open the capsule and stir the contents into a spoonful of sugar-free applesauce with a little raw honey.
Two weeks later his liver enzymes had normalized.
His little body simply needed the support that organ meats provided. The concentrated nutrients from grass-fed liver, heart, and kidney gave his overwhelmed organ the building blocks it needed to catch up and keep detoxing effectively.
I have never forgotten that. And I have recommended organ meat supplementation to nearly every family I have worked with since.

I understand that the idea of feeding your child organ meats may feel completely foreign, especially if you have never cooked them and have no idea where to start. This is exactly why I am so grateful this supplement exists.
Paleovalley’s Grass-Fed Organ Complex contains beef liver, heart, and kidney from organically raised, 100% grass-fed cattle. It comes in capsule form, which means your child never has to taste it. You can swallow the capsule whole or open it and mix it into applesauce, a smoothie, or any food your child tolerates well.
The sourcing matters deeply here. Grass-fed, pasture-raised organ meats are nutritionally superior to those from conventionally raised animals. The fat-soluble vitamin content, the CoQ10 levels, and the mineral profiles are all significantly higher in animals raised the way nature intended. Paleovalley meets that standard and I trust their quality without reservation.
For most children I work with, I recommend starting with two capsules per day mixed into food if needed. Some families move up to four capsules per day as tolerated. Always introduce new supplements gradually and check with your integrative practitioner about timing relative to chemotherapy administration.
Because organ meats are whole food rather than isolated supplements, they are extremely well tolerated even by sensitive digestive systems. Most families report that their children take them without any issue at all.
Results vary depending on where your child’s body is starting from, but many families notice improvements in energy, appetite, and lab values within two to four weeks of consistent use, just as that little boy with Leukemia demonstrated so powerfully.
As a Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, a mother who helped her own child fight cancer for 3.5 years, and someone who has supported thousands of families navigating this journey, organ meat supplementation sits at the very top of my protocol list.
It is whole food. It is deeply nourishing. It is safe, well tolerated, and backed by both ancestral wisdom and modern clinical observation. And for a child whose organs are under extraordinary stress, it gives the body exactly what it needs most.

Is the organ complex for cancer patients or do you recommend everyone to take it?
Hi Pamela – I actually think it would be beneficial for most everyone to take it. Thanks!
What would you think about taking the organ supplement while on blood thinners. The doc is extremely conservative and doesn’t want him to take anything internal but I know that is just bc he doesn’t know.
Shelly
Hi Shelly – Because you’re not my client, and I’m not your doctor, then I would recommend you follow along with your doctors advice. You may also think about trying to incorporate organ meats into your diet, even like pate or trying to hide it into your smoothies and such. Thanks!
Can you take this while receiving chemo?
Hi Sharon – I always recommend consulting your physician first, but I would say yes. Thanks!
Do you know how it’s processed? The team has concerns with raw food being turned into supplements and not having bacteria destroyed.
I’d recommend reaching out to them so they can directly answer all of your questions. Thanks!
